Product Definition

Design Philosophy

EcoBox crates are engineered from a versatile portfolio of materials to ensure strength, flexibility, and long-term reusability. Each EcoBox is modular and foldable, tailored precisely to the product’s size, weight, and level of sensitivity during transport.

The design process considers every stage of the reverse logistics cycle: product dimensions, required protection, the efficiency of folding and handling, collection and return flows, and the strategic placement of maintenance centers and storage points worldwide. This holistic approach ensures that EcoBox crates perform reliably across multiple use cycles, supporting sustainable and efficient logistics.

Design features

Design features are developed to ensure durability, flexibility, and efficient reuse.

  • Package description – A modular, foldable container tailored to the product’s size, weight, and sensitivity during transportation to its destination.
  • Design considerations – Product size and weight, required protection level, global collection network, folding team operations, return process, location and distribution of maintenance centers, maintenance workflow, return supply points, and storage location between use cycles.

Materials & Solutions

Materials are selected according to design and application requirements.

Base – Material Options

  • Steel – For exceptionally high load capacity.
  • Aluminum – For weight reduction, especially in air shipments.
  • PE plastic (vacuum-formed or injection-molded) – For light to medium-weight equipment applications.
  • PP plastic –Base made of pre-fabricated elements welded with molten PP filament, with an optional reinforced version that integrates internal metal profiles to support loads of up to 7 tons.

Between Base and Product – Securing and Protection Solutions

  • Mounting platform – Made of plastic, wood, or metal.
  • Shock absorption components (springs or foam) – Based on product sensitivity.
  • Metal brackets for securing the product to the platform.
  • Ratchet straps to fasten the product to the platform.

Side Walls

  • PP triplex panels or similar, 10 mm / 3000 GSM.
  • Option with PP profiles – For added structural strength, improved stability, and enhanced impact resistance. Profiles and panels are heat-welded with molten PP filament for reinforcement and sealing.
  • Option without profiles – Integrated hinge on the panel for reduced weight, easy folding, and convenient storage and maintenance for standard applications.

Roof Panels

  • PP triplex panels or similar, 10 mm / 3500 GSM.
  • Option with PP profiles and corners – For added structural strength and high impact resistance. Corners include drainage channels. Profiles and panels are heat-welded with molten PP filament for reinforcement and sealing.
  • Without profiles – Heated bending of PP panel with reinforced corners, for reduced weight in standard applications.

Heavy-Duty Machinery Solutions

Engineered for Extreme Loads and Complex Handling

EcoBoxes are engineered to support the transportation and handling of extremely heavy machinery, including equipment weighing several tons.
For such applications, standard packaging concepts are insufficient. The EcoBox integrates dedicated heavy-duty solutions that separate load-bearing, protection, and handling functions, ensuring safe and repeatable operations throughout the logistics cycle.

Depending on the product weight, handling method, and operational requirements, the following solutions can be applied individually or in combination.

Solid Heavy-Duty Load Platform

Base-to-Product Load Transfer for Extreme Weights

For very heavy machinery, the EcoBox system may incorporate a solid, multi-layer wooden load platform designed to carry extreme loads directly from the product to the base structure. In such applications, the mass and structural rigidity of the product eliminate the need for shock absorption components. The platform is fully solid and CNC-machined to the product’s geometry, ensuring precise positioning and maximum stability while transferring multi-ton loads directly to the primary structural elements and providing long-term durability for repeated use.

Anchoring Heavy Machinery to Wooden Beams

Direct mechanical fixation of heavy equipment for safe transport and lifting

For extremely heavy machinery, anchoring the product to the load-bearing structure is essential for safe logistics operations. In EcoBox solutions, machinery is secured directly to dedicated wooden beams, creating a rigid connection to the base system. The wooden beams serve as an engineered interface between the product and the steel base, enabling accurate load distribution and direct mechanical fixation without transferring forces to the side walls. Anchoring is performed using customized fastening elements selected according to product weight and handling requirements. This approach keeps the machinery firmly secured during transport and lifting, prevents internal movement, and supports safe, repeatable handling of heavy-duty equipment.

Internal Structural Metal Frame

Protective Cage for Side Wall Stability

When side walls may be exposed to inward forces during handling, stacking, or transportation, the EcoBox system can integrate an internal structural metal frame that functions as a protective cage within the overall load management concept. This internal frame protects wall panels from deformation while maintaining full modularity and foldability, prevents inward collapse of side walls under high mechanical stress, maintains dimensional stability, and transfers forces directly to the base and primary structural elements.

Heavy-Duty Lifting Configuration

Safe Crane Lifting Without Loading Side Walls

For machinery requiring crane lifting with slings, the EcoBox system can be configured with a reinforced internal lifting frame designed for bottom-load lifting operations. In this configuration, lifting forces are transferred exclusively through dedicated metal profiles integrated into the structure, while side walls remain non-load-bearing. The lifting frame supports the full product weight from the base, provides defined and secure attachment points for lifting slings, prevents load transfer to side walls during lifting, and protects wall panels from damage throughout handling, loading, and unloading operations.
